The Governor and Mr Howard are passionate about engaging with young people, and are opening Government House to school tours for students in Year 9 and above in 2017.
The tours will be available on Mondays (a morning or afternoon session) and will consist of a 30 minute tour of the State Apartments followed by a 30 minute Q&A session with Mr Anthony Howard QC about Government House and the role of the Governor.
Advance bookings with Government House are essential.
The Governor and Mr Howard make a number of official visits to regional Victoria. These visits are hosted by the mayor and council, who use this opportunity to showcase their shire or rural city, as well as provide an insight into what makes each individual community thrive.
On March 9 and 10, 2017, the Governor and Mr Howard visited businesses and community organisations in Hepburn Shire.
The Governor was the keynote speaker at an International Women’s Day function at the Daylesford Town Hall where she presided over the induction of local women to the Heather Mutimer Honour Roll in recognition of their contribution to their communities.
The Governor also visited the Daylesford and Hepburn Mineral Springs Co to open its head office; the Daylesford CFA to present the Horrackses Trophy for bravery; the self-sustaining du Fermier restaurant; the 5000 Club which provides weekly cooked meals to locals; the David Bromley Studio and Sculpture Garden; Paul Bangay’s Garden; and Australia’s first community-owned wind farm, Hepburn Wind.
The Governor and Mr Anthony Howard QC attended the Australian Formula One Grand Prix at Albert Park.
