Government House will be open to the public on Saturday, 28 July as part of Open House Melbourne.


You will be able to do a self-guided tour of the State Apartments which includes the Ballroom, State Dining Room, State Drawing Room, State Hall and Billiard Room.

More than 220 buildings in Melbourne will open their doors as part of Open House Melbourne, with the aim of fostering an appreciation for architecture and discussion about the city's future.

Built between 1872 and 1876, Government House, Victoria, is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register and is recognised for having historical, architectural and aesthetic significance to the State.

It is ‘one of the largest and most beautiful mansion houses in Australia’ and is considered to be one of the finest examples of 19th-century residential architecture, according to the Victorian Heritage Register.

Gates open on Saturday, 28 July at 10 am and last entry is at 3 pm. There is no need to pre-book and entry is free.
