Government House was captured through a different lens today by Scoresby Secondary College students who are the first participants in a new Photography Program.
Armed with their cameras, the Year 10 and 11 media studies students explored photographic opportunities in the State Apartments and around the grounds at Government House.
The Photography Program was initiated by the Hon. Linda Dessau AC, Governor of Victoria, and her husband, Anthony Howard QC, as part of their continuing program to open up Government House to a range of activities and to encourage participation and interest in the arts.
'The creative arts and industry are so important to Victoria. We want the young people of our State to explore and enjoy the opportunities that they present,' the Governor said.
The Governor and Mr Howard met the students and encouraged them to put a modern twist on their images, to reflect the contemporary use of Government House.
Teacher Ben Phillips said it was a wonderful opportunity for the students.
'They were a bit overwhelmed at first but once they got into the project, they were really energised and enjoyed the activity immensely,' he said.
'There are plenty of intricacies and beautiful aspects at the House, providing a lot for the students to play with creatively.'
The students will work on the images over the next few weeks as part of their curriculum.
