The Governor and Mr Howard have made a visit to Puckapunyal Military Area to meet with soldiers deployed on Operation Bushfire Assist.
On Tuesday 28 January, the Governor and Mr Howard visited the Puckapunyal Military Area to meet with senior officers and troops of the 4th Brigade and the Royal Victoria Regiment (RVR). The Governor is Representative Colonel of the RVR.
During the visit the Governor and Mr Howard received a briefing from the commanding officers of the 4th Brigade and the RVR.
The Governor then addressed a hall full of troops, thanking them for their dedication and hard work in a range of roles including in relief and command centres, evacuations, humanitarian aid and supporting preservation of wildlife. This followed a message of thanks the Governor had sent to the entire RVR the previous weekend.
At an afternoon tea which followed, the Governor and Mr Howard met with the troops, hearing firsthand of their experiences and thanking them for their service to the fire-affected communities of Victoria.
