Following the Australia Day Flag Raising Ceremony, Government House Victoria opened its gates to the public for January Open Day.
For over 20 years, Government House Victoria has hosted an annual Open Day on Australia Day, where visitors are able to enjoy free community activities and live music.
In 2025, more than 7000 people took the opportunity to explore the grounds of Government House on Open Day, including taking part in self-guided tours of the State and Governor’s Apartments.
Organisations present at the Open Day included community barbeques from local Lions and Rotary Clubs, as well as displays from the Victoria SES, St John Ambulance Victoria, Life Saving Victoria, and the Country Fire Authority.
Inside the House, visitors enjoyed musical performances from students of the Victorian College of the Arts and viewed historic pieces from the Johnston Collection.
Throughout the day, the Governor met with representatives of volunteer organisations and visitors at the Open Day.
As Patron of 3MBS Melbourne 103.5FM, the Governor also gave an interview to the community broadcaster and congratulated the organisation on its 50th anniversary milestone this year.
The January Open Day is an important part of the program of community engagement at Government House Victoria, alongside the regular free tours of the State Apartments and gardens, ensuring that more Victorians have the opportunity to experience this iconic building and learn about its history.
