On 22 October 2024, the Governor departed on an Official Visit to Japan and China at the request of the Victorian Government.

The visit will see the Governor travel to Tokyo and Nagoya in Japan, followed by Chengdu and Beijing in China, with a busy program of engagements across two weeks.

China and Japan are Victoria’s largest and third-largest trading partners respectively, and are significant export markets across key sectors.

Travel to Japan offers the chance to strengthen trade and investment ties at the 2024 Australia-Japan Joint Business Conference, as well as exploring further collaboration through Victoria’s sister-state relationship with Aichi Prefecture.

The Governor will also promote Victoria’s interests in China, including through attendance at the China Annual Conference and Expo for International Education, in addition to supporting Victoria’s newest sister-state relationship with Sichuan.

International engagement has been a successive key responsibility of Governors of Victoria, and one that requires overseas travel with the support of the Government.

The purpose of these official visits complements international engagement at home by strengthening relationships, opening doors for Victorian businesses, and promoting the State’s economic, social and cultural interests.

Details of the Governor’s program will be published as official engagements are completed.
